Yahoo and Bing started it, now Google is the latest tech company to roll out a new logo, following in their footsteps. The company on Thursday introduced a new flatter logo for its homepage. The roll out of this update will take place across most Google products over the next few weeks. They have asked us to keep an eye out, and "let them know our thoughts", well, we certainly will! How about you?
But the logo isn't entirely new — it's been used internally and externally for years for printing event banners and white papers. The logo version was used in 2010 for a paper on Google's economic impact (.PDF). The "refined color palette and letter shapes of the Google logo," are not immediately noticeable, however as evident even as we look at our own logo redesign, it's a BOLD! move most companies are making. It does not come as a surprise to us especially as we experience the newly updated iOS 7.0 where the design there also speaks well to this trend in it's minimalist tendency. More about this in another post!
One of the comments made by google in their blog post especially caught our attention. "Regardless of your routine, getting around Google should be seamless, and once you're inside an app, you don't want any distractions" the company said in an official blog post. A new updated Google bar that streamlines the experience across products and devices has been introduced, making Google products now accessible under a new app launcher, located at the top right of the screen. Just click on the familiar 'Apps' grid, also present on Android devices and Chromebooks.
